What is Cabinet Refacing?

If you’re like many homeowners, you plan to keep the existing layout of your kitchen exactly the same but wish to renew and update its look. Cabinet refacing, also known in the industry as cabinet resurfacing, lets you keep your existing kitchen intact while completely transforming its appearance.

Kitchen cabinet refacing includes reinforcing your existing cabinet frames with a durable ¼” plywood, then a veneer of real wood or maintenance-free laminate is applied over the plywood. Our expert craftspeople perform precise measurements to ensure your new refaced cabinets boxes are seamless and color-matched to perfection with your new doors and drawer fronts. The transformation is finally completed with your choice of new hinges, knobs and/or pulls, and molding.

Our method of refacing cabinets is conducted by experienced and certified installation professionals. The process involves 4 primary steps that resurface, reinforce, and reinvigorate your cabinetry.

The cabinet refacing Process

remove your doorss & drawer fronts

Your existing doors and drawers are removed to get your kitchen prepared for refacing.

Add High-Quality Veneer

The second layer of lamination is adhered as the exterior finish, in your choice of quality wood or laminate veneer.

Exclusive Double-lamination

As the first layer of our exclusive double-lamination refacing process, a high-grade 1/4” plywood is bonded to your cabinet frames.

All New Doors, Drawers & End Panels

We install new doors and drawer fronts, with optional drawer boxes, to perfectly match your freshly refaced cabinet structure. New hinges and new hardware complete the kitchen refacing transformation!

Refacing and refinishing are completely different kitchen remodeling processes. When refacing, an installer removes the doors and drawers, laminates the existing cabinet boxes in the new color, style and material and then replaces the doors and drawers fronts with all-new. Refinishing requires sanding the existing cabinets, doors & drawers, then reinstalling all of the existing kitchen components.

Cabinet refacing can last a lifetime if special care and measures are taken. Under normal kitchen use and conditions, you can expect to enjoy up to 20 years.
Yes, we reinforce the structural integrity of your existing cabinet boxes with high-quality ¼” plywood panels. We do not use particle board in any part of our products, ever. This also provides a clean surface for the new laminates or wood veneer.
Drawer boxes cannot be refaced. Typically, we recommend replacing the drawer boxes which would include all new drawer glides. For all cabinet refacing projects, new drawer fronts are included.
Installing new cabinetry requires a building permit, but they’re not required with Cabinet Refacing. Building permits can cost anywhere from a few hundred to well over a thousand dollars. So, you can save even more money by opting for cabinet refacing and eliminating the need for a permit.
Cabinet refacing is a very green kitchen remodeling solution. Reduce renovation waste and deforestation in one fell swoop by choosing to restore your old kitchen cabinets with refacing.
